From the wide-spread adoption of CGI, outsourcing of animation to non-union sweatships, and the advent of AI slop, I fear hand-drawn animation is a dying breed of art. It’s difficult, tedious, and hard on your body. Even Disney, once-titan of the industry, has relegated its top 2D animators to theme park projects, instead of mentoring the next generation of hand-drawn artists.
Though I have little space, time, and energy to produce animation in my 1-bedroom apartment, I still find value in the flipping pages, strained eyes, and sore wrists of my past works.
